I'm excited to try for the other ending. 2017 saw the release of numerous video games as well as other developments in the video game industry. The Nintendo Switch console was released in 2017, which sold more than 14 million units by the end of 2017, exceeding the underperforming Wii U lifetime sales, and helped to revitalize Nintendo, alongside the 'retro' Super NES Classic Edition console, the refreshed New Nintendo 2DS XL. The new year is about to dawn, and with it will bring another year of video games released for the PC and other platforms as well. Like every year, there will be some hits, and there will be some misses.

Description[edit]

The Revenant drone was a Word of Blake war machine manufactured from a dedicated plant located near the Devils Peak facility that served as Precentor MartialCameron St. Jamais' headquarters on Terra. The Revenant was a quadrupedal BattleMech drone; one of three different designs to be brought into service by the Word of Blake during the later years of the Jihad, more Revenants saw service than either of the other robotic designs.[3]

Design History[edit]

Like the other two drone 'Mech designs, the Revenant was only encountered during battles within the Sol system, seeing combat on Luna, Mars and Terra. In common with the other drones the Revenant lacked a manned cockpit; instead, the 'Mech was controlled by a Robotic Cockpit and was prone to erratic behavior and poor tactical decisions. Seen to perform strangely at times when exposed to ECM effects, the Revenant was clumsy at the best of times, and rarely acted with any regard to tactics or survival. The allied coalition forces encountering the Revenant initially believed that it was some new form of Manei Domini in action, until examination of increasing amounts of salvage confirmed that the Revenant was in fact an unmanned design.[3]

The Revenant was primarily intended to engage light armor and infantry, a role that its weapon mix favored, but the Revenant was hampered by a combination of mobility and armor more common to Succession War era scout 'Mechs than the more advanced designs commonplace in the late 31st century. The sheer numbers that the Revenant was deployed in, combined with the unusual design and odd behavior initially caused the allied coalition forces some concern, but it soon became clear that the Revenant wasn't a battle-changing capability but rather a desperate attempt to shore up the Blakist's weakening defenses.[3]

The manufacturing lines for the various drone 'Mechs were discovered during the fighting for Devils Peak, but that same action saw the production lines destroyed; when the coalition forces investigated further, it was discovered that a Blakist computer virus had erased the designs, schematics and programming specifications for the drone 'Mechs, making it impossible to determine if the three designs last seen during the struggle for Terra were the be-all and end-all of the program or simply the tip of the iceberg.[3]

Weapons and Equipment[edit]

The Revenant's armament was divided equally between the left and right torso, each of which was equipped with an ER Medium Laser, a Medium Pulse Laser and a pair of Light Machine Guns. A single ton of ammunition for the Light Machine Guns was placed in the central torso.[3]

Variants[edit]

  • UBM-2R
After The Republic of the Sphere raised the Fortress Republic walls, they began researching the Revenant and converted it to use a Drone Operating System.[4] This version carries four ER Medium Lasers and four Light Machine Guns. It serves as the base chassis for all the following variants. BV (2.0) = 779[5][6]
  • UBM-2R2
A fire support variant, this Revenant carries two LRM-5s and two ER Small Lasers. BV (2.0) = 630[7][8]
  • UBM-2R3
This variant carries a single ER PPC into combat. BV (2.0) = 770[9][10]

  • UBM-2R4
An electronics warfare specialist, this variant carries a single ER Flamer to discourage pursuit and infantry. It also carries TAG, a C3 Slave, a Guardian ECM Suite, Beagle Active Probe, and two Remote Sensor Dispensers. BV (2.0) = 615[11][12]
  • UBM-2R7
This variant trades the weaponry and a ton of armor for a Medium Bridgelayer and two Lift Hoists. BV (2.0) = 460[13][14]

Quirks[edit]

The Word of Blake's UBM-1A had two Design Quirks:

  • Obsolete/3079

The Republic of the Sphere's UBM-2R series had the Improved Communications Design Quirk.[15]

Note: Republic Version of the Revenant does not have the Obsolete quirk due to it being in production.

Neat game idea. I really liked the art work - the trees looked great. Some of the camera move was a little jarring, but overall nice work. Runs great on linux.
